Since I met Margaret a few years ago, I have been an avid fan of her Les Beatitude products simply because of the heart and dedication I see in each piece of handicraft. From coin bags to pouches, from wine charms to tote bags, they “tie” many people in our society together. Wine charms and tote bags, our corporate gifts in the past, have received much praise from guests. I have enjoyed working with Margaret on special designs for our gifts and she never ceases to amaze me with her creativity. I look forward to contributing again soon to this meaningful cause!

Few years ago, Les Beatitudes started to organise sewing and leather crafting classes with SoCo for the underprivileged women at the SoCo New World Community Centre in ShumShuiPo Fu Wah Street. With recycled neckties, beautiful pouches, wine glass charms and tote bags were created. Over the years, they integrated collage designs from local artists to further promote the magnificent craftsmanship of these sewing ladies. Their products have been very well received and won a number of awards commending the team. Last two years, Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation has supported Les Beatitudes on their exhibitions to showcase their artistic craft and products which became great platforms for the community to foster mutual understanding and support.

We had the pleasure to partner Les Beatitudes for a joint exhibition titled “Tie ∙ Journey” in 2017. The exhibition provided an avenue to promote craftsmanship of the local artists and sewing mothers by showcasing their works that revealed their interpretation of the unique culture, history and heritage in Hong Kong. It was testament to our shared mission of making art more accessible in the community, nurturing local artistic talents and rejuvenating cultural heritage while promoting upcycling and green living. We wish Les Beatitudes will continue to flourish in the years to come.

I met Margaret when she first started Les Beatitudes and felt her passion for helping underprivileged mothers. She dedicated her efforts to creating work-at-home opportunities for them by collecting neckties to be used as raw materials for members of Les Beatitudes to make interesting collages that feature Hong Kong culture and stories - a very creative way to promote sustainability.
I encouraged her to enter a competition in 2017 so that more people can get to know about Les Beatitudes’ creations. As expected, they received their first well deserved award. In the past two years, they have created corporate gifts for our company, Towngas, which were very well received. I hope that more people will join us in supporting Les Beatitudes, just as Margaret supports local people in need.

I am so glad I attended the exhibition “Opera Lives” organised by Les Beatitudes Foundation. The upcycling handicrafts produced by the grassroots women are so impressive.
I also appreciate Les Beatitudes’s full-hearted commitment to support these women. By connecting them to the community, it increases their self motivation and confidence. These exquisite products also create opportunities to make extra income for their families.
I am very happy to be part of this wonderful exhibition and proud to offer my support.
It was few years ago that I learned about Les Beatitudes. The group had just been founded to help low-income mothers earn money from home through design work and recycling materials.
In particular, they were collecting used items like neckties and turning them into fashionable bags and purses.
I am delighted to see that they are going from strength to strength. The women become experts and choosing pattens that will make striking finished items. The bags made from once-humbled neckties are colourful and unique – true standouts.

We have been working with Les Beatitudes Foundation Ltd. since its inception and collaborating with the founder for over 5 years. They have been contributing to the underprivileged group and a wider network would be beneficial to the expansion and ultimately can benefit Hong Kong.

I have known Margaret since 2017 and her enthusiasm for creating job opportunities for the women in need impressed me. We have been keeping close collaboration with Les Beatitudes Foundation and our visually impaired alumni work with their artists and sewing mothers for the crossover products and their post-processing. For our alumni, this is not solely a job opportunity, but also a meaningful platform to showcase their talents and capabilities. To our delight, they won the national award (Silk Road Women’s Innovation Competition in Xian). Their efforts have been fully recognized and appreciated!

I got the chance of knowing Les Beatitudes Foundation through Zonta Club of Kowloon for two years and has been working with them ever since. Through sewing and design, they are able to empower a group of young teenage mothers to build up their self- confidence and broaden their horizon. Working with the underprivileged especially women are one of the goals of Les Beatitudes Foundation and I am very happy to be able to work together with them and looking forward for further collaboration with them in future.
Volunteer & Designer
I have always love historical stories and structures of Hong Kong. Les Beatitudes provides me a platform to integrate neckties into my work and promote recycle awareness as well as creating work opportunity for the sewing mothers. This is very meaningful, so I am happy to support with my design and artwork.
I had the pleasure to collaborate with Les Beatitudes on designing the tote bag with Braille (writing for the visually-impaired) in 2019. It was a huge challenge, but was very worthwhile and we were honoured to be bestowed with an international award.
We all know that art impacts our society and bring people together, I admire Les Beatitudes’ untiring effort in connecting different artistic group to serve the handicapped and the underprivileged in Hong Kong.
Art do connect people, Les Beatitudes has given me the chance to serve the community. Sharing my art skills with the team members has been the most rewarding experience for me.
Les Beatitudes uses neckties to creatively design useful products that allow the sewing mothers to work from home. This gives them the opportunity to work for extra income while it provides an opportunity to care for their families at home.
We are also invited to join interesting field trips to better appreciate the broader society of Hong Kong. This has greatly enhanced my appreciation for what I have and it encouraged me to share more. My children have also greatly benefited from these outings as both a learning experience and a lesson in how challenges can be faced and overcome in society.

When I first arrived in 1998, I wasn't happy and rarely went out. In 2017 when we saw Chief Executive Carrie Lam used the handbag I sewed in TV, my family was filled with joy. My husband frantically shared the news with his extended family with joy. Nowadays, my son and husband also helped me when I need to carry heavy material.

Since I followed my husband to Hong Kong more than ten years ago, we have been living in a sub-divided flat at Sham Shui Po. I was very afraid to go out, meet people and often got lost. Nevertheless, I hang on for my children. After taking sewing class from Les Beatitudes, I gradually learnt how to sew and felt a great sense of achievement when I finished my first bag. I met new friends and my own social group. Feels good !

I enjoy very much going to the various outings and events organised by Les Beatitudes. It gives me many opportunities to learn new things about the society we live in, and more importantly, in the process I’ve made many good friends and together we create many amazing products, such as hand-stitch those beautiful collage design onto ladies handbags. I actually can’t believe I did it and feel so proud and excited now I know what I’m good at!

I learned sewing in 1990, but the factory relocated to China in 1997. At my 50s, the eyesight is not that good so I sometimes sew under sunlight in the park. Les Beatitudes gives me the opportunity to make more money through handicraft for my daughter. Hope she could enter an university!
I came to HK in 2008 to reunite with my husband and four young children. Few years ago, my husband passed away and I become the sole breadwinner, and with no income I had to apply for CSSA. Now besides my 2 part-time cleaning job, I sew handbags for Les Beatitudes at home which works for me because I can stay at home to care for my children.

My husband is a tram driver and does not earn much, so the family has never had chance to go on a tram ride. In order to learn extra income, I learn how to make handbags and collages. When I got a chance to sew a tram handbag, felt like I took a tram ride already!
CHEUNG Yuet Ming
I really like garment industry, I am happy whenever I can sew! After coming to Hong Kong in 2006, taking care of the family became her main duty as her children were young and I couldn’t find affordable day care. Lacking money and space in the subdivided unit, I couldn’t buy a sewing machine. Now, I have the opportunity to sew tie bags for Les Beatitudes, and I treat every bag as my child. Every time I finished a craft, it’s like a new baby !
CHAN Chuen Foon
I love needlework since she young, but had never worked at a garment factory. After I arrived Hong Kong in 2004, I broke up with my husband and have to take care of my daughter alone. I got depressed and felt hopeless for a long time. I joined Les Beatitudes handbag sewing class for the first time. My good workmanship surprised many people and I am very proud of my bags. This allow me opportunity to make money for her daughter tuition fee. This will improve her chance to enter the university. The lighting at home is not good, so I sew in the park with another mothers when weather permit.

My husband was sick when the children were still very young, so I was very busy. Yet, I still squeeze some time to learn how to sew tie-bags from Les Beatitudes . I feel a sense of satisfaction after finishing a bag. I hope there are more orders coming in so I have more work.
I always wanted to do part-time jobs to reduce the burden on my husband, but it was hard to find a job that could allow me to let me take care of her daughter same time. At that time, Les Beatitudes opened leather class at SoCO, so I immediately applied for it. When Cathay Pacific placed an order to sell our wine glass charms at their inflight sales, I worked very hard . I was so happy that my product could be bought by celebrities. It’s all worth it!

With a broken family, I live with my daughter. It is hard for me to find a job as she has been very depressed and my daughter is still young. While volunteering at SoCO, I learned about the leather crafting class by Les Beatitudes. I have always love leather products, but cannot afford to buy the tools. Making leather product gives me a sense of satisfaction. When other women encounter difficulties, I am am happy I can help them.
LIN Su Fen
I quitted my job to take care of my young daughter few years ago. So, our family has to rely on the single income of my husband. Although I am really interested in leather work, material is too expensive for me. When I knew I could join the free class on making leather wine glass charm offered by Les Beatitudes, I am so happy because I can make extra income to help my husband again.
CHAN Fung Sin
My husband is a tailor and we were a loving couple. When he passed away, felt like doomsday and got depressed. Luckily, the two children become my motivation. Sewing with my husband’s sewing machine became my consolidation. When I joined the bag sewing class Les Beatitudes at SoCO, I am happy as I can make such delicate handbag.
